The holiday used to be on February 22, but in the late 60s was moved around so that the federal government could have a double birthday party for Washington and fellow president Abraham Lincoln. Historians will remember that Washington acolytes preferred ice-cream cake while Lincolnians wanted chips and guacamole. The resulting compromise, frozen salsa cookies, was as disgusting as it was democratic.
